pounds of Bass, Matt easily beat a field of 101 kayak anglers on a sunny Mission Bay day.
Matt wins a $1000 Cobra Fish n Dive kayak and he also takes the $385 cash pool for the largest Bass caught.
Paul Weintraub finished second with 7.61 pounds and wins the onno carbon fiber paddle; Jeff Heames was third with 7.11 pounds and takes a vhf radio third place prize; Drew Clarke's 7.07 pounds was good for fouth place and a Humminbird fish finder and Michael Niebecker took fifth with
a total of 6.84 pounds along with a Ram Rod adjustable rodholder.
Some familiar names did not make the top ten this time and some new ones showed their talent. Bill Garver bought his first kayak just a couple of weeks ago at the urging of former champion Bill Hokstad. After a quick lesson in kayak fishing from
Hokstad, Bill went on to weigh in eleven fish and totaled out at 6.78 pounds, missing the top five by just one place. Bill Hokstad finished right behind in a tie for 7th.
Matt Moyer has consistently threatened to win this tournament for the past year. Last April Matt missed winning by just
.7 lbs. finishing third behind Devin and Ed Schockley. Then in June he was third again and was within .22 lbs of Doug Yesensky's winning total. An then in our last tournament in January, 03, Matt took second to Ed Whited, coming up short by only .06 lbs! Matt also tied for the largest bass caught in Jan., sharing the cash pool with Devin.
There were a lot of people expecting Matt to win this event and he left no doubt with his impressive victory. Almost one and a half pounds seperated Moyer from second place finisher Paul Weintraub. Watch out for Paul in July!
