Rick, Thank You. I was very excited to do well in this tourney-I practiced quite a bit. About me, I live in PB, I moved out here about three years ago after finishing college for the same reason many people do- the weather and surf. Little did I know how great the fishing was. I'm originally from Delaware. I've been fishing for most of my life. . I grew up fishing out there in the local ponds and lakes as well as the bays and ocean during the summer. I enjoy fishing both the ocean and the bays as well as freedive spearfishing and lobster hunting (which I am relatively a newbie). However, if the surf's good I'm usually out surfing. For this tourney I prefished alot. I love Mission Bay because it is close to home and allowed me many opportunities to sneak out for a few hours after work- especially when daylight savings rolled around. My friend Kaare and I basically fished the entire area over the course of a few weeks taking mental notes on tides, depths, lures, etc. I figured out a few patterns and put together a plan. I was mainly using a double willow blade spinnerbait- Pro-line and Strike King brand, with a brown and orange skirt. On tournament day, everything fell into place. It was nice to have a plan work out without any hitches. In recent tourneys, I always had something go wrong. This time, only my livewell battery went dead and I had to hand pour water into my tank to keep the fish healthy. I also think that being able to stand up on my Cobra Fish n' Dive was a big factor. I was on my feet most of the time and didnt get cramps, pains, etc. I was able to concentrate on fishing, get long casts and scan the water well. Kaare and I have been practicing this lately and I think I saw a few others on Sunday doing it as well. Its a great kayak for my style of fishing. Thanks again Rick, and I'll be in soon. |
