After 26 Kayak Fishing Tournaments, since 1999, all of which have been pretty much the same format, we have decided to hold a totally unique event that we believe has not been tried before. In our last kayak fishing tournament we had 134 kayak anglers compete. This next tourney will be more similar to our early events when we would get anywhere from 25 to 50 kayak anglers to participate. Because of the One Design format, we are expecting fewer than 30 entries. For over 20 years we have had dozens of One Design events for sailing and windsurfing so we thought why not be the first to try it for kayak fishing. The One Design concept simply means that all competitors must fish from the same model of kayak. We chose the Fish n Dive because it is by far our most popular fishing kayak. The rules will be the same as our previous events, the first place prize is still a $1000 Cobra kayak and the entry fee is the same as all our other tourneys...$25. There will not be a ton of raffle prizes, although we will have some nice give aways and prizes for the top five places as always. The barbecue and refreshments are included and we will also have a cash prize for the largest Bass caught. Here's how it works... If you own a Fish n Dive, it will cost you $25 to enter the Tournament. Everyone will have a better shot at winning with the reduced number of entries. If you do not own a Fish n Dive you can still charter one of our Fish n Dives for an extra $15 for the full day. We will have a limited number of new Fish n Dives to charter, but we should have at least 10 to 12 new kayaks available for the event. There are an awful lot of Fish n Dives in San Diego, so if you don't have one you may know a friend that has one to loan to you for the day. For more information on entering the tournament or for chartering a Fish n Dive for the event call Rick at the Sailing Center at (858) 488-0651. The store hours for the Sailing Center are Mon to Fri. 11am to 5pm and Sat and Sun. 10am to 5pm. Scroll down for tournament rules and weigh in boat info. |
